AmCham Southwest held its 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and New Year Celebration on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Chengdu.More than 200 guests attended this celebration, including officials from the U.S. Consulate General Chengdu, Canadian Trade Office Chengdu, Department of Justice of Sichuan Province, Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs, and Chengdu Investment Promotion Bureau, as well as AmCham members and executives from Fortune 500 multinationals to local entrepreneurs. All the guests gathered together to share the feast.
Annual General Meeting is the largest and most elite gathering of AmCham members each year, as representatives from all the U.S. corporate members vote to elect new AmCham board of governors. The current board of governors reported finance, events and programs during the previous year, maintaining accountability with the AmCham membership.
This year, 8 candidates contented for 5 places of 2018 AmCham Southwest Board of Governors. All these competitors are talents from famous enterprises such as GE, Intel, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, G-MEO , Meishi International School, Bio Smart Solutions., Chengdu International School and Nuskin. After exciting speeches and voting, Mr. Francis Peters, the Principal Commercial Officer at the U.S. Consulate in Chengdu, and Ms. Nicole Xue, General Manager of AmCham Southwest counted the votes. As a result, Ms. Yi Gu, West China Government Affairs Director of Intel China Ltd. and Mr. Joseph Ma, VP of GE China & GM of GE Healthcare West Region earned the most votes, who will be AmCham board members for 2 years. Meanwhile, Mr. Vito Romeo General Manager of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Chengdu, Ms. Jingyu Wang, Director of Chengdu American Center for Study Abroad, G-MEO and Mr Kevin Blissett, Principal of IB Programs of Chengdu Meishi International School won one-year board positions. 2018 AmCham Board of Governors are dedicated to bringing our members together to address mutual interests and concerns. Additionally, AmCham works with the People’s Republic of China to foster and increase commerce, trade and foreign investments. 2018 AmCham BOG will strive to achieve these common goals through AmCham networks, dialogues, monthly meetings, events and annual symposiums. One of the highlights is Award Ceremony of AmCham 2017 CSR, which aims at encouraging AmCham members and friends to actively take corporate social responsibilities, devoting to build a better community in the coming New Year. Nine member companies including GreatChina International Education, Dell EMC, Intel Products (Chengdu) Ltd., Cofco Coca-Cola Sichuan Branch, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Chengdu, Sino-US United MetLife Insurance Co.,Ltd., Sichuan Branch, GE(China)Co., Ltd. , Nuskin(China) Daily-Use &Health Products Co., Ltd., Sichuan Branch and The Temple House participated in this CSR project, while GreatChina International Education won the Best 2017 CSR Project with the most votes. All these nine companies were taken photos and presented charity certificates at the stage.
The event started with the Lion dancing, when AmCham Southwest Chairman Mr.Benjamin Wang and Consul General of the U.S Consulate Mr. Jim Mullinax dotted the Lion’s eyes. Then it comes with speeches from Chairman Benjamin Wang, Vice Chairman Eli Sweet, and Mr. Michael Wang, founder and chairman of our title sponsor Griffin International Academy. After that, Officers of 2017 AmCham board, Jay Fang and Jolly Ma delivered annual reports.
Two rounds of lucky draws pushed the Annual General Meeting to a climax, with warm greetings from sponsors. The awards include two iPads, tens of room vouchers from five-star hotels as well as two China-U.S. round-trip flight tickets kindly sponsored by our lucky draw prize sponsors. Moreover all attendees were handed out nice New Year gifts.
AmCham Southwest will continue to work closely with the U.S. Consulate in Chengdu and other AmCham chapters in China to promote economic, trade, cultural cooperation between the U.S. and China, and furthermore provide our members with high-quality services and events.
