AmCham 2019 AGM and New Year Celebration Succeeded

AmCham Southwest 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and New Year Celebration was held successfully on Thursday, January 10th, 2019 at JW Marriott Hotel Chengdu. Around 200 guests attended this year’s AGM, and among them were CEOs, commercial leaders and executives from Fortune 500 companies operating in Southwest China, which include FedEx, Texas Instruments, JLL, Walt Disney, Kolher, GE, Intel, Dell, Pratt & Whitney Aerotech Manufacturing, Citibank, Keysight Technologies, SEAF Sichuan SME Investment Fund and Rheem China Water Heater Co., Ltd. Important members of the government, which include Sichuan Provincial Department of Justice and Department of Commerce, Sichuan Bureau of Expo Affairs, Sichuan People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Office of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs, Chengdu Investment Promotion Bureau and Chengdu Federation of Industry and Commerce were also invited to the AGM. Consul Generals and officers from the New Zealand Consulate General in Chengdu and Singapore Consulate General in Chengdu, officers from Canada Trade Office Chengdu, California Center and China-Britain Business Council also joined this event. All the guests gathered together to share the feast.
An unique and modern Mirror Robot Dance kicked off the AGM. AmCham Southwest Chairman Benjamin Wang and representative of the title sponsor gave their greetings respectively. On behalf of AmCham, Mr. Benjamin Wang also expressed his gratitude to the sponsors of the event, as well as the attendance and support of officers from the consulates and government sections. He delivered a review on the achievements AmCham has made during the past year, especially on the close cooperation AmCham has with the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu and provincial and municipal governments. Ms. Ticcy Wang from Hilton Garden Inn Chengdu Huayang, one of AmCham’s long-time members, also the title sponsor of this year’s AGM, gave her regards to the guests and briefly introduced the hotel. AmCham Vice Chairman Eli Sweet, Officer Jay Fang and Charles Cheung made their annual reports on TIPS, administration, finance and events respectively.
AmCham Corporate Members voted for 2019 Board of Governors. Among the eleven positions of governors, there are five uncontested positions and two incumbent positions. Five nominated candidates competed for four vacant positions. They are executives from Chengdu International School, United Airlines, The Ritz-Carlton Chengdu, EOG Resources and JW Marriott Hotel Chengdu. After their brilliant election speeches, representatives of the Corporate Members voted for their choices. After counting votes, AmCham Chairman and Vice Chairman announced the new BoG. Country Manager Sam Harms from EOG Resources China and Regional Sales Manager Lorna Liu from United Airlines got the most votes and will be on the Board for two-term years. Team Director Edward Blanchard of Chengdu International School and Marcel Damen, General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Chengdu will be the new 2019 governors.
There are 16 companies in total that entered the AmCham Best 2018 CSR Project competition. They are Andaman Eco-tourism Resort, Nuskin (China) Daily-Use&Health Products Co., Ltd., Chengdu AIDI Eye Hospital, DellEMC Chengdu, Hilton Chengdu, Intel Products (Chengdu) Co., Ltd., SYNNEX Information Technologies (Chengdu), Ltd., Airbnb China, TE Connectivity Chengdu, Jones Lang LaSalle Surveyor (Shanghai) Limited Chengdu Branch, The Ritz-Carlton Chengdu, The Temple House, COFCO Coca-Cola Beverage (Sichuan) Co., Ltd., Crowne Plaza Chengdu City Center, GreatChina International Education, and Texas Instrument. Before the announcement of the results, representatives of 16 member enterprises touched the big screen together, which represents the meaning of “small love will gather into big love. Let’s join hands in creating a better community”. Andaman Eco-tourism Resort has won the Best 2018 CSR Project. All these 16 companies took group photos on the stage together and were awarded with charity certificates, which aims to encourage AmCham members and friends to actively take corporate social responsibilities, and devoted to build a better community in the coming New Year.
AmCham provided performances with a combination of Chinese and Western elements, such as dance show and Sichuan Face-Changing & Fire- Breathing Show. There were also Italian and American musicians presenting a live guitar & saxophone and flute duet that brought the most gorgeous visual feast to the guests in the New Year. The lucky draw round pushed the AGM to a climax, the number of prizes reached nearly around 70, which include round trip flights from Chengdu to the United States, imported water heater, room and meal vouchers of luxurious five-star hotels, experience vouchers for outdoor adventure park, imported wine gift boxes, and custom-made Reform and Opening Up 40th Anniversary gift sets. Each guests presented was handed out an AmCham New Year gift bag.
AmCham Southwest will continue to promote economic, cultural cooperation between the U.S. and China, and moreover provide our members with high-quality services and events.
